Description of University: Appalachian State University, in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, prepares students to lead purposeful lives as global citizens who understand and engage their responsibilities in creating a sustainable future for all. Minimum Qualifications: The required qualifications for the position are: a terminal degree and a notable record in teaching, scholarship, and service, sufficient to merit the rank of full professor in one of the departments of the college. Individuals who have attained the highest levels of distinction in leadership in business and industry, demonstrated progressively responsible academic administrative leadership, commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment, and successful fundraising or other developmental activities are encouraged to apply. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Proven leader in supporting and promoting higher education, research, and service to industry, community, and profession. 

Progressively responsible academic administrative positions and experiences that show a deep understanding of the role of instruction, intellectual contributions, and service/engagement activities of faculty, as well as experiences in managing budgets, personnel, and curriculum processes.  

Possess an entrepreneurial and innovative mindset through demonstrated ability in fundraising and other creative strategies to lead the College in identifying and furthering its academic portfolio and competitive advantages. 

Centers issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the College’s culture through a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. 

An understanding and support of sustainability practices in business and industry. 

Strong communication and team-building skills with demonstrated success in building relationships with important internal and external stakeholders. 

Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and staff and experience in building partnerships with the business community and alumni. 

Exhibits characteristics of integrity and high ethical standards. 

The ability to lead and oversee the AACSB ongoing, continuous improvement accreditation process. 

Demonstrated interest and/or experience in international business and globalization.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Appalachian State University invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Business. The College of Business seeks a dynamic, articulate, energetic leader who will build on the College’s strong foundation and advance the College with an entrepreneurial and growth mindset.
 
Appalachian State University is a member of the University of North Carolina System and has a student population of nearly 21,000. Responsibilities: The Dean is the chief academic and executive officer of the College and reports to the Provost. The primary responsibilities of the Dean are interacting with the business community, fundraising, oversight of AACSB accreditation, demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity, contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment, and administration of the College and contribution to Academic Affairs and University Leadership.
